Transfer
Heidelberg University supports transfer activities and further development of forward-looking ideas with the primary goal of increasing society’s participation in scientifically generated knowledge. The Department of German Language and Literature implements this transfer in different ways.
The department strives to promote a lively social exchange to supplement the Heidelberg poetry lectures and public presentations. Our social media presence reinforces the transparency of research and teaching in society. Heidelberg’s German studies also strive to offer a diverse range of courses with its Germanistik in der Gesellschaft (German Studies in Society; GiG) initiative. They include seminars that emphasise practical relevance and help to open up career prospects beyond school and university (e.g., publishing work, language sponsorships, journalism, etc.).

Overview
The Clemens-Brentano-Preis
The Clemens Brentano promotional award endowed with 10,000 euros, has been awarded by the City of Heidelberg every year since 1993, with categories alternating between short story, essay, novel, and poetry, to German-language authors who have already attracted the attention of critics and the reading public with their first works.
Language sponsorships for refugees
War, fight, and displacement are ever-present. Every day, volunteers do their best to support the refugees that are arriving in Heidelberg. We German studies students also want to contribute and make use of the resource we all have: the German language. Join our language sponsorship project!
